The Castle Hill RSL Master Swimming Club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand luncheon on Sunday 16th June, bringing together members past and present to honour this milestone. Club President David Hagan described the event as “a reflection on our journey and a celebration of where we are today.”
Founded in 1974 as a men’s adult swimming club, it became a mixed club in the early 2000s, a change that marked a new era of inclusivity and growth. With members ranging in age from 16 to over 80, the club remains a vibrant and welcoming community.
The celebration highlighted long-term members who have shaped the club’s history. Special recognition was given to John Langford (50 years), Joe Serg (49 years), and Peter Edwards (46 years), who were the inaugural recipients of the newly established JJP-Service Award, honouring exceptional contributions to the club.
The event also celebrated the achievements of female members, including pioneers like Lilly Peirce, the first woman to join, and Robina Fellner, the club’s first female president.
Since joining the Masters Swimming Association in 2009, the club has competed in major events, including the World Masters Games, proudly showcasing its competitive spirit.
President Hagan closed the event with optimism: “This anniversary is not just a celebration of our history but a testament to our future. We look forward to many more years of community and success in the pool.”
