More than 45 volunteers gathered at Castle Hill RSL Club for a highly productive and community-driven day, working collaboratively to pack an impressive 672 Supertees for children undergoing hospital treatment. The effort marked a record achievement for the group, reflecting both strong participation and a shared commitment to supporting young patients.
The packing initiative was delivered across two sessions, drawing in volunteers from a diverse range of community organisations. Participants included members of Castle Hill High School’s Rotary Interact Club, Castle Hill RSL’s Backgammon Club, the Castle Hill & District and City of Parramatta sub-Branches, Coonara-Cherrybrook Probus Club, East Coast Eagles AFL Football Club, Kellyville Netball Club, Loreto Normanhurst, Rouse Hill Rhinos Junior Rugby League Club, 1st Winston Hills Scout Group, and the CHRG team. This cross-section of groups contributed to a collaborative environment that underpinned the event’s success.
Each Supertee assembled during the sessions will soon be distributed to children receiving medical care in hospitals. These specially designed garments resemble superhero costumes while incorporating practical features that allow medical staff easy access for treatment. Beyond functionality, the Supertees aim to provide emotional support by helping children maintain a sense of identity, imagination, and confidence during what can often be a confronting experience. Designs packed on the day included themes such as Ballerina, Parramatta Eels, Spiderman, Space Commander, and Captain America, ensuring each item carried an element of individuality and fun.
In addition to the packing activity, the club hosted a concurrent Kids Day, transforming the venue into a lively, family-oriented space. Activities such as face painting, balloon artistry, and appearances by superhero entertainers created an engaging atmosphere, enhancing the experience for both volunteers and visiting families.
Andrew Watt, Fundraising and Business Development Coordinator at Supertee, emphasised the initiative’s broader significance. He noted that the ongoing partnership between Castle Hill RSL Club and Supertee extends beyond delivering care packs, fostering unity by bringing people together around a common goal.
Supertee Founder and CEO Jason Sotiris also reflected on the origins of the organisation, explaining that the concept was inspired by his daughter’s experience with cancer treatment. He highlighted the loss of normal childhood experiences during extended hospital stays and his motivation to create a product that restores a sense of control, creativity, and resilience for young patients.
With 672 Supertees now prepared for distribution, the event demonstrated the tangible impact of coordinated community action, reinforcing the role of collective effort in providing meaningful support to children facing significant health challenges.
